What is a boiler anyway? Most dictionaries define a boiler as a closed vessel used to convert water to steam. If your boiler needs repair, you should know that there are many different types of boilers on the market today.

Chances are if you need to replace your boiler, you will be replacing a regular boiler with a higher quality energy efficient boiler that will save you money over the long run. These new boilers are called high efficiency condensing boilers. High efficiency condecing boilers convert a higher percentage of their fuel into heat compared to a regular or "traditional" boiler. Is your boiler over 10 years old? If so, you probably have a regular boiler.

Boiler contractors may also be plumbing contractors. Boiler contractors, heating contractors or plumbing contractors, you should do your homework before you hire any contractors. Boiler contractors should have knowledge of traditional boilers as well as the newer model boilers so that they can help you solve your boiler problems. Regulations may be different from state to state, but you should make sure the boiler contractors you contact have the proper licenses and insurance. Ask for references from other local homeowners that have had a similar boiler repair, replacement or boiler service maintenance.
